BBC Four presents Woolf Works, Wayne McGregor’s multi award-winning ballet inspired by the writings of Virginia Woolf, performed by The Royal Ballet.
The ballet’s three acts draws upon a different landmark novel by Woolf; Mrs Dalloway, Orlando and The Waves, with additional inspiration drawn from her letters, essays and diaries.

Wayne McGregor’s first full-length work for The Royal Ballet, Woolf Works was hailed as compelling moving and was met with critical acclaim on its premiere in 2015, receiving both the Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for Best Classical Choreography and the Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production.
About Wayne McGregor CBE
Wayne McGregor CBE is a multi-award winning British choreographer and director. In addition to creating works for his own company, Studio Wayne McGregor, he regularly creates works for some of the world’s leading dance companies including the New York City Ballet, Australian Ballet, English National Ballet and Rambert. McGregor was appointed resident choreographer of The Royal Ballet in 2006, the first contemporary choreographer to hold the post.
Woolf Works was recorded during a sold-out run of performances at The Royal Opera House in 2017, and is presented by Darcey Bussell and Clemency Burton-Hill.
