That you must see the Nederlands Dans Theater 1 while they’re in London, is about all you need to know!
Cancel all your plans, ignore the sunshine outside and book your tickets! I promise you will not regret missing a couple of hours of warmth.
I say this because the company’s performance of the inspired and genius work of Sol León, Paul Lightfoot, Crystal Pite and Marco Goecke is a mind exploding, practically life altering experience – and the reason why NDT is one my all time favourite companies.
With large rotating staging, live videography, ultra-intelligent concepts, sensational choreography, exposed bodies, powder clouds, stunning music, performed by sublime dancers who are simply out of this world brilliant, this is a night that will stay with me forever.
The 4 pieces by the 3 choreographers are so incredible that I almost don’t want to reveal each story for fear of giving too much away. I just want you to experience it. But what I will say, is that almost nothing compares to watching NDT’s intensely trained dancers – whose technique and physical precision is awe-inspiring – perform the intricate, expressive and demanding roles created by León, Lightfoot, Pite and Goecke.
Each creator with their own perspective, own challenge to the body, telling their own story (ranging from the deeply emotional to dark political humour), they explore the dancers’ mind and soul, creating an intoxicating mix of exemplary movement that each of the dancers individually and collectively pour themselves into and take the audience away with them.
It is so intoxicating that I dared not blink for fear of missing a moment, that I could easily watch over and over and over. And it was a moment that brought the audience to its feet for a rapturous and well deserved applause.
I truly hope you get to see this! And with only 2 more shows (27 & 28 June), you better be quick!
