Dance Umbrella, London’s leading festival of international dance, has today announced the appointment of Julia Glawe as new Executive Director. Julia was previously Executive Director of Milwaukee Ballet, Senior Vice President and Director of the Dance Division at IMG Artists in New York and founded The Glawe Group. She will take over as Executive Director of Dance Umbrella from Anu Giri who has stepped down after 5 years.

Julia Glawe is the founder of The Glawe Group, a company which provides strategic planning and interim leadership to individual artists and arts organisations. Recently she was the Executive Director of Milwaukee Ballet, where she spearheaded the organisation’s capital campaign for a new home. She was Senior Vice President and Director of the Dance Division at IMG Artists in New York and in London. During her 16-year tenure with the company, the dance roster expanded to include the Bolshoi Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, Nederland Dans Theater, and many others. Julia has served on the boards of the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) and the Western Arts Alliance (WAA). In 2009, she received WAA’s Leadership Award, its highest honor, for artistic excellence and distinguished leadership. In 2013, she was named the founding Chair of WAA’s CODA Council. She has been a guest speaker for Carnegie Mellon University, Dance/USA, Juilliard, Purchase College, and the Shanghai International Festival.
